In many cases, the effects of past events can be stored in a
person's nerve pathways.
A depressed or fearful person's nervous system is not damaged;
it's frozen in a kind of
suspended animation. This suspension seems to reproduce the reaction
to the original event
over and over. The difficulty comes
when the habitual neurological reaction gets imbedded
in your life and it feels like you no longer have choices about
how your life is proceeding.
In the
body
By giving attention to the ways that the body is holding the past
emotional experiences,
we can begin to break this cycle of
helplessness. We may use techiques that supports this
intention such as slow movements; breath and focused calming; hypnotic
learning that
relaxes the body and calms the mind; or attention
to physical necessities, such as nutrition,
sleep patterns, and
exercise. These together begin to teach you to live from your strengths
and from your own inner resources.
In the
mind
Thoughts also serve to hold past experiences in one's life. We can discover
what those
thoughts are by reviewing current events and how you
respond to them. These thoughts
create your reality and
they affect your moods. We call them automatic thoughts,
because they come from that cycle of helplessness, and appear to be
programmed into one's
neurological system. Using Energy
Psychology, we can also ask the neurological and
electrical systems that hold the thought in place to change its pattern.
Finally, we work to discover what your natural, life-long talents and
resources are.
Using the work of positive psychology, we will use
testing, and looking at your life stories
to discover your own top four or five strengths. We can then fashion
exercises and experiences
that can help you discover how you can live the amazing, happy,
satisfied, meaningful life you desire.
